GE Vernova Materials Engineer - Towers & Welding in Greenville, South Carolina

Job Description Summary

The successful candidate will be a Materials Engineer for steel materials and processing technologies used in the design and manufacture of Wind Turbine products, specializing in towers and other fabrications (welded components).

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support cross-functional teams to deliver qualified Wind Turbine components that meet engineering requirements, cost targets, and production fulfillment schedules.

  • Review supplier documentation, perform audits, and evaluate test results against GE requirements.

  • Execute research and development programs on new steel materials and processes that enable new product introductions for GE Wind turbines.

  • Continuous improvement of current Wind components to improve quality and/or reduce costs through new or revised special processes and/or alternate materials.

  • Resolve material processing related issues encountered during manufacturing at suppliers and throughout the life cycle of the component while in service. Review records of quality, composition, and mechanical properties to detect trends that may indicate undesirable changes in product quality.

  • Perform root cause and corrective action analyses to solve problems encountered with manufacturing processes and customer operations.

  • Write and interpret material and special process specifications. Ensure that specification acceptance/inspection procedures, and processing instructions are suitable, complete, and that these documents are properly controlled.

  • Establish requirements for steel materials and special steel processes including; material characterization, mechanical properties, steel making procedures, joining practices (including welding heavy fabrications), heat treatment, non-destructive testing and other special processes to ensure proper quality is maintained.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding, Metallurgical, Materials Science Engineering or related field.

  • Ability and willingness to travel (international and domestic) as needed (less than 20%)

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge of international codes and standards for steel materials, welding, testing, and compliance.

  • Hands-on experience in metallurgical testing and analysis.

  • Experience with material failure modes and analysis techniques.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

  • Non-destructive testing knowledge strongly preferred (UT, PAUT, MPI).

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive consensus

  • Highly motivated and hands-on
