GE Vernova Wind Blades Component Engineering Manager in Greenville, South Carolina

Job Description Summary

This role is to be the leader of Wind Blades Component Engineering Team. In this role you will be responsible for the development and ownership of the methods and design principals for the components within a Wind Blade. In this role you will partner with other leaders of both wind blades engineering, sourcing, manufacturing and suppliers to develop component design principals that meet the customer requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prioritize team resources by SQDC: Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost in that order.

  • Support field quality issues, New Product Development, New Technology Development and Cost Out.

  • Own blade component design principals, which includes spar caps, lightning protection system, bonding, core materials, root joint etc.

  • Determine design process documentation strategy for Wind Blades Engineering team. Maintain proper and up to date requirements.

  • Support field quality issues, New Product Development, New Technology Development and Cost Out.

  • Develop blade component design concepts that are manufacturable. Set acceptance criteria accounting for both structural requirements and manufacturing capabilities. Where there is a disconnect develop and execution action plan to resolve.

  • Underwrite decisions, utilizing all known information which includes analysis, testing, manufacturing & fleet experience leveraging tech charts.

  • Validate blade component assumptions & concepts to deliver component field reliability that meets the requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with cross functional team which includes blade structures engineering, materials engineering, test labs, sourcing, factories and suppliers.

  • Contribute to Wind Blades MGPP and MGTP, identify blade component development needs to meet the strategic roadmap.

  • Build a strong team – attract, develop, and retain great talent. Create culture of empowerment, coaching, and talent development.

  • Ensure that teams share best practices, tools, and lessons learned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • Minimum of 7 years of work experience in mechanical design

  • Minimum of 2 years of wind turbine experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Wind Turbine specific design or operational experience

  • Experience with wind blade composite design & manufacturing

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
