Job Purpose

The Senior Research & Development Chemist is the primary technical driving force for new product and application development for MCA-PPD, as well as providing sustaining technical support to current product line. This position will function as a key technical resource to all production locations as needed. The incumbent will work with Purchasing, Production, Sales and Marketing to supply technical knowledge and guidance regarding raw material, polymer and related problems and/or performance issues where materials may be a factor. The Senior R&D Chemist will supervise and mentor less-senior members of the technical team as needed.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Drive targeted new product development efforts for our thermoplastic, polyvinyl, and 3DP-based compounds for major global strategic customers.

  2. Responsible for technical integrity of the new product development cycle:

  • raw material selection and qualification including working knowledge of SDS and regulatory requirements

  • formulation development and establishment of processing criteria / requirements

  • establishment of intellectual property position

  • customer acceptance and quality control

  1. Coordinate and validate each major step in the development system by providing technical leadership. Technical support will be given to MCA Purchasing, Production, Process & Project Engineering, Regulatory & Compliance, Quality Control, and key customers.

  2. The incumbent must be familiar with physical property testing for specialty compounds, weathering, as well as plastic instrument characterization by FT-IR, TGA, DSC, etc.

  3. Provide technical support to MCA-PPD’s diverse product lines to sustain and grow current business. Support can be through working with:

  4. Purchasing to qualify new or modified raw materials,

  5. Production and Processing Engineering for technical analysis of nonconforming material and continuous improvement for reject reduction and/or cost improvements.

  6. Marketing and Technical Service personnel to develop new and/or modified products to meet customer and marketplace needs including developing data, technical data sheets, engineering material testing and approval submittals to OEM.

  7. Establish and maintain key technical relationships with other regions and divisions in MCG to leverage global know-how and best practices.

  8. Lead and mentor less-senior members of the Technical Team, sharing know-how and overseeing critical projects and programs.

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  1. Four-year technical degree from a four-year College or University.

  2. Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

  3. 5+ years’ experience in compounding and product development

  4. Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.

  5. Excellent computer skills - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  6. Problem-solving skills demonstrated through utilization of tools such as 8D/5-Why/Six Sigma approach.

  7. Demonstrated ability to lead individuals and teams through product/process development and problem-solving.

  8. Experience with TEP is preferred.

  9. Automotive experience is preferred.

Pay Transparency (complete highlighted sections)

  • The salary range for this position is $100,922 - $126,152. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
