POSITION SUMMARY
Grinnell College’s Dining Services department is in search of a Pastry Chef to join its team. The main roles for this position would be preparation of breakfast pastries, dessert items, and breads for the dining marketplace, catering and the a la carte grill. The Pastry Chef will review recipes and methods for accuracy and test new recipes. They will train and develop the baking staff and prepare production schedules for the daily workload. The individual should have the knowledge to maintain Federal, State, and College Safety and Sanitation standards to include good personal hygiene.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare breakfast pastries, bars, cookies, pies, desserts, and breads for the dining services (meal plan operations, cash operations, and catering), using standardized recipes, to include:
Total scratch made items
Thaw, frost & serve items
Mix, Proof (rise), bake, and serve items
Deep fry, ice and serve items
Maintenance of Federal, State and College Safety and Sanitation Standards in work areas, including practice of good personal hygiene.
Prepare daily production schedules
Review recipes for accuracy
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in related culinary field or equivalent experience in a culinary field
Three years or more of work experience-minimum of 2 years in culinary field
Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, etc.

Preferred Qualifications
Baking certificate of certified executive pastry chef
Serve Safe Food Certification (will provide training for certification if necessary)
Valid Drivers License
