Job Summary

This position cleans assigned buildings in a set period of time using proper methods and materials in cleaning and care for building areas and equipment. Participates in other areas of Ocean Enterprise operations as directed. Aids supervisor with special events and projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cleaning assigned buildings, sweeps, mops and cleans floors; cleans white boards as directed; washes windows, walls, vents, and glass doors; empties trash cans. Also sets up for events and cleans up afterwards.

  • Dusts general areas, vacuums rooms, replenishes supplies and cleans drinking fountains and restrooms. Cleans, sweeps, and mops entrances, outside plazas and walks, as applicable.

  • Assists in the maintenance and care of custodial and event services equipment and furnishing such as vacuum cleaners, buffing machines, pressure washers, tables, chairs, tents, podiums, and other related equipment and furnishing as required.

  • This position will require participation in call-out responsibilities and may require night shift responsibilities, and weekend work. Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Reports damaged structures and equipment to supervisor.

  • Serves as a member of the Ocean Enterprise Essential Personnel and as directed by the Custodial Lead to participate in pre-emergency preparations and post emergency recovery efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One year of custodial or related experience. Driver's License required. Must possess or be able to possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card for access to the Port of Gulfport.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations.

  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.

  • Skilled in managing ones’ own time while completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions.

  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Ability to read and understand instruction manuals and chemical labels.

  • Ability to obtain a driver’s license prior to employment.

  • Ability to operate automatic floor scrubbers and buffers.

  • Ability to perform hard floor care to include applying and removing stripper and applying multiple coats of floor wax.
