Oshkosh Corporation Cost Engineer in Hagerstown, Maryland

As a Cost Engineer for JLG, you will be responsible for the development, enhancement, and maintenance of our Cost Management discipline, including team leadership, cost estimation best practices, building cost drivers awareness, and parts classification. Additional responsibilities include providing administration support of should cost software tools that are used across the Global Product Development team.

YOUR IMPACT:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to both direct and indirect team members on the development of new processes and procedures to optimize and simplify product cost.

  • Develop and maintain best in class methods for cost estimation by aligning models with supplier capabilities across a variety of major commodities.

  • Manage resources to complete should costing for New Product Development, Cost Management, Sustainment Engineering, and additional Engineering departments.

  • Own and manage a should cost database for cost predictions and cost ideas through the means of should/common cost estimates on all major commodities.

  • Enhance the part classification systems to encourage reuse and to leverage should cost analytics.

  • Interface with Purchasing and Suppliers to understand capabilities and processes.

  • Develop cost sensitivities between product models/options to aid in market basket analysis.

  • Establish consistent cost reporting methodologies across all product platforms.

  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.

  • Participate in design reviews, coordinate with supply chains, manufacturing and report out project status.

  • Lead cross functional VAVE events to identify potential, actionable changes to design, material selection, etc. that lead to cost improvements through the engineering process.

  • Willingness to engage with industry experts and colleagues throughout the Oshkosh family.

  • Provide management/leadership to technical staff including resource planning, scheduling, and administration to ensure program success.

  • Adhere to time schedules.

  • Maintain tools and virtual production environments with the design community.

  • Create system documentation, procedures, work instructions and end user training materials.

  • Conduct periodic training to new and existing personnel.

  • Provide technical support for the PLM and CAD user base.

  • Interface with Costing software supplier Technical Support.

  • Assist with Costing software application upgrades, testing, and evaluations.

  • Assist in the identification of new Costing application technologies and aide in the incorporation into Oshkosh’s systems.

  • Perform job duties in an ethical, professional manner which is consistent with the Oshkosh Way. Conduct duties consistent with the Company’s mission statement, quality objectives, and defined policies and procedures

  • Responsible for completion of a project or part of a project of moderate complexity on time. May be responsible for overall project schedule and budget.

  • May be responsible for managing multiple priorities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Regular attendance is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Finance, Business Administration or related field.

  • 5 or more years related experience.

  • Experience using cost management software.

  • General knowledge of cost drivers as they relate to manufactured product.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS office applications for data analysis and documentation.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with aPriori software and administration.

  • Working knowledge of Creo Parametric 3D CAD system operation.

  • Working knowledge of Windchill PLM system operation.

  • Strong verbal, presentation and written communication skills.

  • Ability to take charge and lead tasks to completion.

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional organization.

  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills.

  • Strong mechanical/electrical knowledge of vehicles and related systems.
