Hagerstown Community College Dental Assistant Program Lab Assistant in Hagerstown, Maryland

SUMMARY STATEMENT This position is responsible for supporting the dental program skills laboratories in the Career Programs building in conjunction with program faculty, which includes the use of simulation and other technologies that assists students in meeting program outcome

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. The Dental Assistant Program Lab Assistant reports directly to and is responsible to the Dental Assistant Program Coordinator.

B. The position provides supervision to students enrolled in the Dental Assistant Program during laboratory rotations.

C. The Dental Assistant Lab Assistant coordinates most closely with the Dental Assistant Program Coordinator/Faculty and other health sciences division faculty and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

A. Assists faculty to assess lab curriculum for each program course.

B. Supports program faculty to plan a comprehensive curriculum for each course. This includes the development of purpose, objectives, outcomes, and learning activities.

C. Supports the implementation of the curriculum in conjunction with faculty, using a variety equipment and supplies, and computer based instruction tools and programs.

D. Collaboratively works with faculty to ensure students achievement of learning outcomes through evaluation of competencies and skill assessment tests, reflecting the curriculum.

E. Works with dental assistant program faculty to ensure the availability of properly functioning equipment and supplies.

F. Assists faculty to set up supplies and equipment for each skill.

G. Assesses all equipment to ensure proper maintenance and function in relation to manufacturer recommendation.

H. Maintains labs in a clean and orderly fashion.

I. Participates in division and college wide committees and activities as appropriate.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Certification as a Dental Assistant required. Previous experience managing dental laboratories for dental practice preferred. Experience teaching Dental Assisting courses preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent organization and management skills. Ability to work with clinical simulation and clinical technology. Knowledge of diagnostic and patient care supplies and equipment. Knowledge of the Internet, Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to establish good working relationships with staff, students, and the community. Able to organize and prioritize work, make decisions independently, and attend to details.
