Quinnipiac University Part-Time Faculty: Biology - Spring 2025 in Hamden, Connecticut

Overview:

The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks highly qualified applicants who are committed to excellence in teaching for part-time faculty positions for Spring and Summer 2025. We are particularly interested in individuals with experience teaching Introductory Biology with applications to health sciences and nursing, sophomore-level Human Anatomy and Physiology Lab, or graduate courses in the area of molecular and cell biology.

Possible openings include undergraduate sections of BIO 101, 102, 101L, 102L, and 104L as well as Human Anatomy and Physiology labs (BIO 211L, BIO 212L). Possible graduate courses include Molecular Cell Biology Journal Club (BIO 550) or MCB electives. Undergraduate openings are in day and evening sections; graduate courses may be offered in person or online.

About the School/Program:

The breadth of programs offered in the College of Arts and Sciences provides the traditional strengths of a liberal arts education, with a focus on cultivating the intellectual and practical skills that students need for their personal and professional lives. The College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate majors in behavioral neuroscience, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, economics, English, game design and development, gerontology, history, independent majors, interdisciplinary studies, law in society, mathematics, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, Spanish language and literature, and theater.

In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences offers 31 undergraduate minors (including a minor in Italian), a MS in Molecular and Cell Biology and the additional accelerated undergraduate/graduate programs: 3+1 and 4+1 BS/MS programs in Molecular and Cell Biology, 3+3 BA or BS/JD degree, 3+1 BA in Theater/MBA, and 3+2 BA or BS/MSW. Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, Math, and Spanish.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementing a common course syllabus, or developing and/or updating a course syllabus, as applicable. Posting the syllabus to Blackboard.

  • Preparing lectures, projects, or other student assignments.

  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

  • Meeting all scheduled classes at the times published in the course schedule.

  • Being responsive to student needs, including holding at least one office hour per week per course.

  • Notifying your department chair or program director in advance and arranging for coverage, in the unusual event that you cannot be present at a scheduled class.

  • Checking Quinnipiac email frequently to stay current with all communications.

  • Completing mandatory training within the time frame identified as defined by Human Resources. Examples include: Harassment & Discrimination, Data Security & Privacy and Managing Bias.

    Education Requirements

  • A minimum of an MS degree in Biology or a related field is required; PhD preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred.

  • Evidence of recent effective teaching.

  • Experience in the use of instructional technologies, especially Blackboard.

  • Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
