CONSTRUCTION SERVICES PRACTICE

Michael Baker International's Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.

DESCRIPTION

The Construction Services Department Manager will be responsible for business development, quality control/quality assurance, staff utilization, financial management, production/project oversight, and the safety of the team for the Michael Baker International Construction Services group in New Jersey. You will lead the statewide Construction Services practice as a seller/doer while assigned as Project Manager or Construction Manager, as required. You will also direct a team of field personnel on a host of projects consisting of Roadway, Bridge, Rail and Transit, Aviation, Water and Wastewater, and related Construction Management and Construction Inspection projects.

You will be responsible for developing and growing the team as well as developing and maintaining positive client relations, including monitoring client satisfaction. The successful candidate will also possess deep experience with more than fifteen years managing projects for NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA, PANYNJ, and/or NJTRANSIT.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs and coordinates activities of the Department for attainment of office goals
Responsible for developing and implementing strategic goals for the New Jersey Construction Services practice and collaborating with office leadership
Reviews analyzes project staffing activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine the Department progress toward stated goals and objectives
Responsible for the Departmental business development and marketing/teaming strategies including proposal technical writing
Responsible for developing and monitoring the Department budget and staff utilization
Manages recruitment activities including attracting top talent and facilitating on-boarding of new team members
Provides leadership and direction by mentoring and motivating staff on issues such as training, performance feedback, technical guidance, financial management, and client relations
Resolves personnel issues, such as marginal performance, policy interpretations, and succession planning
Participates in internal and external professional development activities
Lead Department compliance and adherence to quality management and quality assurance practices
Maintains current knowledge regarding applicable regulatory, legal, industry practice and company/ client standards of procedure (SOPs)
Manages and/or delivers projects on-time, safely, under budget, and of the utmost quality

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and/or related field
20 years of Construction Management experience with highway construction and/or structural components (bridges, retaining walls, sign structures, culverts, etc.), including earthwork, concrete and asphalt paving construction, drainage, water quality basins and utility construction
NJ Professional Engineer (PE) preferred or NICET level III/IV Highway Construction Inspection certification is required
Prior Construction Management/Resident Engineering experience and positive working relationships with NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA, PANYNJ, and/or NJTRANSIT
Valid certifications in ACI Field Concrete Testing, NJ Society of Asphalt Technician certification (NJSAT) or NECEPT), Rutgers TCP. ACI CCTC certification desirable
Knowledge of FAA reporting requirements is desirable
Experience delivering large construction projects valued between $30 - $200M
Working knowledge of E-builder, Microsoft Office Suite, BlueBeam, Adobe Pro, and Scheduling Platforms

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $175,000 to $ 220,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
