POSITI0N: Custodian / Maintenance

SUPERVISOR: Corps Officer

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Corps Officer

FLSA Status: Part time / Non-Exempt

Job Summary: The Custodian, with the approval of the Corps Officer, will organize, implement and direct the maintenance and care of the Hanapepe Corps and property.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to and, if necessary, reorganize the daily cleaning schedule of the corps building internally and externally. This includes, but is not limited to, dusting, sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, cleaning windows, vacuuming, emptying trash, cutting the grass/weeds around the property, and

  • Keep all maintenance closets and supply areas neat and clean. Be sure that cleaning supplies are properly labeled, used according to the instructions, and stored out-of-reach of children.

  • Understand program schedules and set up rooms with needed equipment prior to the start of all scheduled programs.

  • Work closely and cooperatively with other staff members when needs relative to maintenance / custodian arise in their areas.

  • Set up and follow a periodic check system (service) of emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, water heater, smoke alarms, building alarms, etc.

  • Identify and propose maintenance projects necessary to the upkeep of the corps property.

  • Small projects - (light painting, small plumbing problems, misc. repairs, etc.) to be done “in-house” when time and skills permit. Such projects are to be done in a competent and timely manner.

  • Routinely check that all outside doors and windows are secure, turn off lights, heating and air conditioning when not in use.

  • Prepare food bags for food pantry distribution.

  • Keep all sidewalks, entry ways, and all landscaping areas clean and free from trash.

  • Report any landscape problems or needs to the supervisor.

  • Ensure that any graffiti found on Army property or equipment is photographed, quickly painted over, and reported to the police.

  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. Present a written list of cleaning supplies and equipment to the supervisor when purchases need to be made.

  • Attending staff meetings, when assigned.

  • Utilize and supervise individuals who are fulfilling Community Service hours at our facility.

  • Keep all vehicle driving and maintenance records complete and up to date for the three service vehicles.

  • Use protective equipment (i.e. gloves, face mask, etc.) when using cleaning supplies or spraying chemicals.

  • Handle other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to follow written and verbal directions in English.

  • Must have knowledge of maintenance, custodial, and basic landscaping products and equipment.

  • Must have a sense of cleanliness, tidiness and neatness.

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

  • Must possess a high degree of initiative, a willingness to help people, and a desire to be an effective team member.
