Position Overview:

The Assistant Buyer is responsible for working with Buyers for sourcing, selecting, and procuring functions directly associated with the purchasing of products to be sold in stores. This position is required to initiate and direct various aspects of the buying process to ensure the purchase of the best products at the best price.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support all aspects of the buying process to ensure the purchase of the best products at the best price.
  • Work closely with vendors to support the buying process.
  • Attend trade shows to keep informed of new products and ideas.
  • Research products and markets for proper prices and placement of goods.
  • Recommend selling prices for merchandise, deals and buys.
  • Develop allocation plans which support the departmental goals to increase sales.
  • Support the department for which they work.
  • Present products that should be featured in advertising, during ad meetings.
  • Analyze and monitor sales records, trends, and economic conditions to determine what the company will sell and how much inventory is needed.
  • Providing support on various projects within the Buying department.
  • Complete any additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Ability to travel to trade shows, including overnight stays.
  • Ability to work day shift regularly, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and listening skills; ability to effectively communicate with all team members, guests, and vendors.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks and activities and work within strict timeframes and deadlines.
  • High sense of urgency and energy level.
  • Ability to be detailed, analyze and retain data.
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of information.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in a normal seated position regularly.
  • Ability to see, hear, and speak regularly.
  • Ability to grip, reach, and pinch with arms and hands frequently.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
