The Assistant Director of MLC Transformation and Underwriting Practices will have accountability for the management, quality, and successful delivery of business implementation activities of all projects within their area of responsibility that fall within the scope of the MLC Transformation initiatives. By leading these activities, they will ensure successful transition from the current state to the future state of a change.

Transformation in this context covers preparing, managing, and reinforcing a change in terms of people, processes, and technology. This includes identification of organizational and role impacts along with assessing process, training, and communication needs. Responsible for medium to large sized projects, often of varying scope, high complexity, and non-contained risk. Projects may be concurrent or overlap.

The Assistant Director of MLC Transformation and UW Practices will also have a role in ensuring that there is alignment from the stakeholders in the value realization for a specific project. Building strong partnerships with the cross functional group of stakeholders, connecting and holding people accountable from all areas and disciplines of the company is critical to the success of this role.

Additional responsibilities in the area of Underwriting Practices include project specific work to support and enable the Underwriting execution across MLC. This work will vary in nature, is often process driven, and includes but is not limited to partnering with business units to establish underwriting guidelines, standard work, and best practices. Working independently but with the ability to build strong partnerships with key stakeholders, strong verbal and written communication skills are critical to the success of this role.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office location (Add locations) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a Change Manager on the project team leading business implementation and Change Management Plan execution across various delivery methodologies. (Incumbents generally manage 1-3 projects simultaneously.)

  • Deliver and maintain project artifacts: Business Project Planning, Organizational Impact Assessment (OIA), Business Implementation/Change Management Plan, Business Cost Estimates, User Acceptance Test Plans, Business Transition Plans, Risk/Issue/Decision Tracking

  • Facilitate project meetings, create and maintain meeting documentation, and provide status reporting

  • Drive business resource planning, secure functional SME representation, develop allocation estimates, and maintain resource forecasts

  • Lead business readiness planning, leverage the Organizational Impact Assessment and develop the Business Implementation Plan, including identifying dependencies, risks and issues, and facilitating escalation and resolution

  • Actively manage UAT, including release planning, implementation, and related defect meetings

  • Participate in defect meetings during User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

  • Work with business on prioritization of defect criticality

  • Work with business to assess impact of any defects accepted by the business

  • Development of mid-level roadmaps/plans and/or detail execution plans, where needed, to aid and drive business readiness activities, or facilitate risks across functions and work streams.

  • Effectively use resources to be organized and set priorities to meet critical business needs and helps other team mates to do the same if necessary

  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Agile teams, Product and UW Subject Matter Experts, Service Operations, Communications, and Learning resources to execute a cohesive master change & implementation plan

  • Partner with IT to develop an integrated IT/BI plan at the project level

  • Provide project support to PMO Program Managers and Program Directors

  • Partner with assigned MLC business unit, partner, or line of business to identify and execute on underwriting process improvement in areas of measurable impact.

  • Enable underwriting execution across MLC by driving efficiency, innovation, and simplicity in underwriting process, guidelines, and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, specialized training, or equivalent work experience

  • 3+ years of insurance industry experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of Project Management experience or equivalent leadership experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project software

  • Strategic perspective of MLC business drivers and enterprise-wide technology

  • Capability to integrate MLC business and technology strategy into a well-defined initiative

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, planning, and execution

  • Experience and skill in managing across functional and organizational lines

  • Ability to lead and influence others

  • Works under high level of autonomy and takes initiative

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • PMP certification preferred

  • Six Sigma certifications preferred

  • Certification in ADKAR preferred

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$97,360 - $146,040
