Job Description

The New Product Innovation Intern will learn how HSB identifies, prioritizes, and validates new product ideas through both hands-on work and shadowing opportunities in a highly collaborative team environment. Key activities:

  • For new product idea submissions, interview internal experts and consult external resources to:

  • articulate the problem to be solved,

  • describe the end-customer and value-chain,

  • assess opportunity size and growth potential, and

  • evaluate HSB’s Right to Play, Right to Win.

  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts and perform lite secondary market research to describe and assess opportunity areas within HSB’s set of Innovation Themes.

  • Support the planning, delivery, documentation, and retrospective of Ideation workshops.

  • Shadow New Product Architects to learn HSB innovation processes and support with market research and analysis, as needed.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD course of study with a concentration in innovation, entrepreneurship, design thinking, and/or market analysis

  • Key attributes:

  • Highly motivated and action-oriented with strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Collaborative attitude and willingness to work with internal stakeholders.

  • Self-starter who is comfortable drinking from a firehose. A learner who picks up new concepts/terms quickly.

  • Track record of getting things done quickly and accurately

  • Superior interpersonal, presentation and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

  • Demonstrated interest in customer-centric innovation and new product development. Prefer experience with Lean Startup or Design Thinking frameworks

  • Must be comfortable with standard MS Office Programs and tools.
