Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$135,700.00 - $223,900.00

As a member of Enterprise Technology Solutions (ETS), you’ll be joining a strategic and collaborative team that is passionate about transforming our business and technology capabilities and paving the way for best-in-class solutions.

As Senior Architect, you will play a pivotal role helping define the target state of a multi-cloud engineering ecosystem that accelerates software delivery across Travelers.

Reporting to a member of the Enterprise Architecture and Engineering Enablement leadership team, your primary focus will be collaboratively designing systems and processes that streamline the jobs of engineers removing friction related to application development and environment setup.

In this role we will look to you to:

• Partner with technology and business leaders defining target state, forging a path to success by delivering emerging technologies that transform and optimize the business.

• Communicate a clear architecture vision that aligns engineering and architecture leadership and guides delivery teams building Travelers' next generation engineering platform.

• Inspire high-performing Engineers and Architects to achieve excellence through coaching, mentoring and empowerment.

• Apply your broad Dev Ops and Software Architecture experience to support a growing engineering community.

• Bring your creativity and innovative thinking to a team building world class engineering experiences on AWS leveraging event driven architecture, DevOps best practices, API first design patterns, vulnerability management, EKS, IAC, IAM, ML, and Gen AI.

• Be a person of high integrity who responsibly challenges the status quo while being sensitive to perspectives not your own.

• Contribute as a valued team member working within a dynamic community of enterprise architecture leaders charged with establishing a unified enterprise cloud-first architecture vision.

What Will You Do?

  • Architecture responsibility within a major segment of Technology Architecture in support of the Digital Enablement business unit.

  • Apply your broad Dev Ops and Software Architecture experience to support a growing engineering community.

  • Work with the Senior leadership within Technology and Business to develop architecture priorities and direction to enable business imperatives.

  • Displays strong thought leadership in pursuit of modern architecture principles and technology modernization.

  • Drive continuous technology transformation to minimize technical debt.

  • Build a strong collaborative relationship with Senior Software Engineering partners

  • Look for opportunities to capitalize on technological advances through analysis of key industry and technology trends to assess potential impact on the enterprise.

  • Define and lead technology proof of concepts to ensure feasibility of architecture solutions.

  • Hands-on prototyping of new technology solutions.

  • Partner with Software Engineering peers to execute proof of technologies.

  • Define target state technology architecture and roadmaps.

  • Ensure alignment of IT initiatives with established target states.

  • Build strong partnership with engineering teams to ensure proper alignment of skills with technology direction.

  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive communications to convey architectural direction and how it aligns with enterprise strategy.

  • Continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness of the architecture.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • You are a visionary leader with a track record of building high-quality enterprise solutions.

  • You are results-driven and bring strong architecture and engineering skills and a deep understanding of modern technologies including AWS, Cloud-Native, Kubernetes, Event Driven Architecture, API-first best practices, and Gen AI.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a technology related field or equivalent with 5+ years of technology Architecture leadership experience.

  • A proven record of providing mentorship to architects and engineers.

  • Organizational and transformational experience in an agile operating model.

  • Experience defining strategic technology direction and architecture vision for an organization.

  • Strong proven Software Engineering experience.

  • Developed technology target state, roadmaps that aligned to Short and Long-term business goals.

  • Proven track record of influencing senior leadership.

  • Strong grasp of value creation and business capability models,

  • Innovative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.

  • Must be passionate about technology transformations.

  • Has hands on technical experience building test driven solutions within the last 3 years.

  • Executed technology modernization initiatives including migration to cloud native, API Strategy, and Event Driven Architectures

  • Cloud Architecture Certification (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or strong architecture experience on Cloud

  • Good understanding of security

  • Experienced with large scale technology platforms

  • Hands on experience with data technologies on cloud

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in work experience.

  • Six years of experience in enterprise, application, and/or information architecture within a line of business or enterprise area
