The Hartford’s Enterprise Data Services (EDS) goal is to achieve greater business value through the use of data by simplifying the architecture, standardizing process and tools, and building a data culture across the enterprise.

The Hartford's Enterprise Data Organization is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer/Tech Lead. We are seeking a talented professional with a proven track record of engineering and operationalizing a next generation analytics solution suite using Oracle PL/SQL, Cloud (AWS), and Big Data Technologies. Our ideal candidate will leverage deep technical expertise and strong communication skills to deliver both invest and maintenance projects within the Enterprise portfolio.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to create, troubleshoot, enhance complex ETL like Oracle PL/SQL and SSIS code packages

  • Ability to lead and operate in cloud environment involving AWS, Snowflake and migrate data assets to cloud

  • Data integration and experience in distributed data systems – expert to effectively linking, transforming and transferring of data between multiple applications on Prem or Cloud-based

  • Provides highly technical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies that assist the functional business units in meeting their strategic objectives

  • Act as a Technical Leader that provides technical guidance and best practices adherence as needed

  • Consults with functional management in the analysis of short and long-range business requirements and recommends innovations which anticipate the future impact of changing business needs

  • Formulates logical statements of business problems and devises, tests and implements efficient, cost effective application program solutions (e.g., codes and/or reuses existing code through the use of program development software alternatives and/or integrates purchased solutions)

  • Prepares charts, tables and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems, utilizing various business, scientific, engineering and mathematical techniques. Analyzes existing system and programming logic to provide more efficient machine operations or to identify difficulties, and revises the logic and procedures involved as necessary

  • Possesses functional knowledge and skills reflective of a competent practitioner with the ability to deliver on work of highest technical complexity

  • Researches and evaluates alternative solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost effective solution for the systems design

  • Support and quickly respond to Production issues and requirements clarifications

  • Coordinate as needed between multiple disciplines such as, Architects, Business Analysts, Scrum Masters, and Developers to get technical clarity leading to design, develop and implementation of business solution.

  • Oversight of quality and completeness of detailed technical specifications, solution designs, and code reviews as well as adherence to the non-functional requirements.

  • Participate as active agile team member to help drive feature refinement, user story completion, code review, etc.

  • Identify, document and communicate technical risks, issues and alternative technical solutions discovered during project.

  • Collaboration with a high-performing, forward-focused team, Product Owner(s) and Business stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and 7 or more years’ experience in IT systems analysis and application program development, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • 5+ years strong Database Developer experience using Oracle PL/SQL – stored procedures, packages, functions, querying, testing, and deploying

  • 1-3 years experience of migrating assets to cloud - AWS and Snowflake environment

  • 5+ years of data analysis, manipulation and development

  • 1+ years of experience in the insurance or investment industry

  • Strong SQL skills

  • Knowledge of Oracle, Unix/Linux Shell scripting, Autosys scheduling tool, Sub Version, and Github /Jenkins (CI/CD) version control Tools

  • Strong data warehouse applications knowledge in financial/insurance domain

  • Knowledge of Data Modeling and Database design is key to this role

  • Ability to design, implement, and oversee ETL processes

  • Familiarity with emerging data centric technologies such as data virtualization

  • Ability to choose and effectively utilize data wrangling technologies

  • Exposure to cloud, Python/ Pyspark, Shell Scripting (e.g. AWS, S3, UNIX, Python, Snowflake, etc.) and learning/adapting to future technologies is preferred but not required.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$113,360 - $170,040
