Sr Manager – Application Development (API Development)

Join Fortune 7 CVS Health as a Director –Application Development within the Shared Services and Advanced Technology Delivery (SSATD) organization. In this role, you will be a critical technical leader who is responsible for leading teams in API and integrations delivery. You will be a deep technical thinker with experience driving transformational changes, delivering innovative solutions, and achieving efficient and effective delivery. You will lead teams in end-to-end integration delivery, innovative proof-of-concepts, operationalizing new technologies and practices, strengthening automation and devops, and driving API and integration stability. You have a demonstrated ability to lead multiple distributed, cross-functional teams. You have demonstrated your passion for technology through your achievements.

In addition to deep technical skills, you will have direct managerial responsibility for teams that may include Software Engineers, QA automation engineers, and Business Analysts. Your leadership will enable the team to achieve ambitious goals with demonstrable value. You will guide, mentor, and foster the team’s development through positivity, collaboration, and CVS Heart-at-Work Behaviors.

Fundamental Components:

  • Technical Leader and SME in API technologies, integration practices and end-to-end delivery using technologies such as API C, Apigee, Kong, API M, Java.

  • Lead and mentor a team of up to 25 specialized engineers and IT professionals fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

  • Recruit, hire, train and retain a high performing engineering team, promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous learning

  • MUST be willing to be permanently on-call 24x7 on a rotational basis and to lead team in hands-on technical troubleshooting. Establish rigorous quality and release practices and lead teams in regular late-night and early morning deployments.

  • Leads or acts as chief technical contributor to translation of business requirements to technical specifications.

  • Lead end-to-end, from strategy through execution. Proactively identify and mitigate risks. Lead teams in Devops, SRE, Observability, and release rigor to achieve high release success rates and strengthen stability.

  • Guides work prioritization in alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Monitor and optimize performance, identifying opportunities for enhancement and addressing any issues or bottlenecks.

  • Establish metrics to measure value, efficiency, and improvements.

  • Builds relationships with partners, vendors, teams, and customers. Leads the way through collaboration.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in middleware and integration technologies to drive innovation and efficiency

  • Lead the team in adopting new and innovative practices and technologies. Leader of change and comfortable in high-paced environments with high levels of ambiguity. Lead team in pivoting as needed while remaining steadfastly focused on the overall objective.

  • Collaborate closely with other IT teams, business units and stakeholders to understand their needs and provide effective solutions.

  • Communication ability to report on progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior management and stakeholders, including presenting technical concepts to non-technical audiences

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience (7-10 years) in software engineering end-to-end delivery including leading team in solutioning, coding, and production support

  • 6+ years in API Development, integration technologies and practices (such as API C, Kong, Apigee, API M, Microservices, Java, etc.)

  • Experience managing a team of 8-10 people including employees and consultants.

  • 5+ years in Java with high level of technical expertise, hands on coding, and leading teams in Java delivery. Able to manage Java apps in production including technical troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in IBM API C, IBM ACE, DataPower, CloudPak, Azure, Google Cloud

  • Strong understanding of cloud-based technologies (Azure, GCP), engineering frameworks and tools

  • Infrastructure knowledge and expertise (F5, DataPower, Firewalls, Certs)

  • Health insurance industry experience with deep understanding of health care value chain

  • Experience delivering in Agile, SAFE, Kanban, and Lean practices

EducationBachelor’s Degree.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$118,450.00 - $247,200.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
