The incumbent of this position is responsible for all phases of foodservice programming, including supervising and directing operations and personnel of the kitchen, dining room, serving line, tray line and dish room, as well as procurement and budgeting. Participate in menu planning, as well as direct food production according to menus and recipes while meeting food safety codes to ensure that quality service and nutritious meals are provided for residents, staff, guests, and volunteer organizations. This position has regular scheduled cook shifts as well as assumes the cook position during absences.
The incumbent is responsible for the development and direction of appropriate vocational rehabilitation training programs for Veterans.
The incumbent is expected to be a positive role model, support leadership directives and decisions, and recognize that they are an ambassador and representative of the State and the MDVA.
The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. The Hastings DOM is located in the southeast metro with connecting highways for an easy commute. The beautiful 128 acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.
Minimum Qualifications
One year experience as a kitchen supervisor or three years experience as a cook in a medium to large food operation
Inventory and ordering experience to sufficiently maintain adequate food and kitchen supplies
Knowledge of and experience with Health Department regulations pertaining to food preparation, storage and sanitation sufficient to ensure food safety
Effective communication skills and competent in training and education of staff
Proficient in the use of computers and computer software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Food Manager Certification
Experience with kitchen menu software system such as SureQuest, PCC Nutrition Management, or similar software
ServSafe Certified

This position requires successful completion of the following:
A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position . Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
