CampusGuard’s RedLens InfoSec team is looking for motivated Cybersecurity Interns with a passion for ethical hacking and penetration testing. This isn’t your typical internship—you’ll be gaining hands-on experience, learning from industry experts, and helping us secure data for leading universities, healthcare institutions, and government agencies. You will receive experience in identifying vulnerabilities, assessing risks, and applying industry-leading security practices.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Vulnerability Assessments & Penetration Testing: Help conduct vulnerability scans and penetration testing using industry tools.
Web Application Security Testing: Assist in web app testing aligned with OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) standards.
Attack Simulations: With guidance, learn to simulate real-world attacks to assess system security.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Review vulnerability data, identify issues, and help document findings.
Security Advising: Collaborate with the team to develop security recommendations and prepare customer reports.
Training & Development: Participate in team meetings and training sessions to sharpen your cybersecurity skills.
EDUCATION:
Pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of network infrastructure, operating systems, and common security vulnerabilities.
EXPERIENCE:
- Curiosity & Passion for Cybersecurity: You’re excited about ethical hacking and eager to dive
into the latest techniques for protecting sensitive information.
Basic Technical Skills: Familiarity with networks, operating systems, and common security vulnerabilities. You might know your way around Linux and Windows environments, have explored tools like Nmap or Wireshark, or have a foundational knowledge of network protocols.
Coding & Scripting Knowledge (Preferred): Experience with Python, Bash, or PowerShell is a plus—especially if you’ve used these for security tasks or automation.
Understanding of Security Fundamentals: You know about key cybersecurity concepts, such as vulnerability scanning, threat modeling, and the basics of encryption.
Team Player with Strong Communication Skills: You’re comfortable collaborating with teammates and explaining technical concepts to non-technical people. Clear written and verbal communication is essential, as you’ll be involved in documenting findings and presenting them to clients.
Interest in Security Certifications: If you’re pursuing certifications like CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), or any Offensive Security certifications (like OSCP), we’d love to hear about it.
Proactive Problem-Solver: You’re naturally curious and love to find and solve problems. You don’t just spot issues; you think about creative ways to fix them.
COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
Security Standards & Frameworks: Familiarity with well-known cybersecurity standards like PCI DSS, NIST 800-53, and ISO/IEC 27001 is a plus. Awareness of health information security standards (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH) and data privacy laws is beneficial.
Penetration Testing Techniques: Knowledge of testing methodologies, such as black-box, gray-box, and white-box testing, and a basic understanding of vulnerability exploitation.
Web Application Security: Understanding of web vulnerabilities (like SQL injection, XSS) and OWASP’s Top 10 security risks.
Basic Network Security Concepts: Foundational knowledge of firewalls, routers, and security protocols. Awareness of security risks in network environments and strategies to mitigate them.
