Job Summary
The School of Kinesiology and Nutrition at The University of Southern Mississippi is accepting applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor. This is a semester-by-semester, temporary appointment based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Multiple opportunities across a variety of courses are available and applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Strength and conditioning (CSCS certification)/Weight Training
SCUBA
First-Aid/CPR
Physical Education
Sport Coaching Education (experience coaching individual or multiple sports)
Nutrition and Dietetics
Exercise Science
Exercise Physiology
Exercise Psychology
Sports Psychology
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate coursework in the School of Kinesiology and Nutrition.
Maintaining course shells in Canvas for each course.
Assessing student learning outcomes in assigned courses.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with proof of certification to support specific expertise (Red Cross Instructor Certification to teach first aid courses; CSCS to teach activity courses) - OR- a Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Nutrition, or a closely related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds, programs, and colleges.
Expertise in the area for which they are applying.
Ability to be flexible.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Nutrition, or a closely related field. Teaching experience in K-12 physical education. Coaching experience. Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas.
