Job Summary

The Associate Business Analyst administers software solutions for ORA's functional areas (SOARFIN and InfoEd) as well as assisting with any computer issues users have. The ABA runs internal processes in USM's financial system, establishes new awards in the financial system, including determination of contract components for billing, revenue, and accounts receivable. Reviews software solutions for updates and tests/implements changes to environments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages setup of new sponsored project awards in USM's complex financial system, including determination of appropriate billing, revenue, and accounts receivable plans. Notifies project directors of their project accounts, responds to questions, and provides resolution or referral. Performs all financial system processes related to project management including but not limited to billing, revenue, and F&A.

  • Participates in software implementations, testing, and maintenance for ORA's functional areas. Includes creation of business process and scripts, user training, and problem solving. Evaluates and recommends technology solutions. Manages work orders for ORA technology and identifies and resolves problems with hardware and software.

  • Provides standard and ad hoc reports for Deans, Directors, VPs, IHL and others related to ORA proposals, awards, and expenditures. Creates new data queries as required, and interacts with iTech on complex reporting requiring SQR programming.

  • Reviews high-risk expenditure categories on externally funded projects for compliance with federal, state, and university standards. Interacts with other ORA staff, project directors, academic deans and directors to resolve expenditures that are not compliant. Identifies and recommends methods to strengthen internal controls and implements approved solutions.

  • Communicates with faculty, staff, directors, deans, and others to answer questions, resolve problems, and improve process and procedure.

  • Stays abreast of regulations affecting research administration.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Information or Systems Technology, or related field –OR- an Associate’s Degree/two years of college in Business, Information or Systems Technology or a related field and two years of related work experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with meticulous data entry and analysis in complex systems.

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, with skill in creating spreadsheets.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to communicate technical information to university clients and ORA staff.

  • Ability to complete assignments accurately, by the deadline, and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to learn and explain policies and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Information or Systems Technology, or related field. Experience with Oracle products, SQL Developer, and InfoEd products.
