Job Summary

The Director is the chief administrative officer of the School of Management in the College of Business and Economic Development at the University of Southern Mississippi. The responsibilities of the Director include planning strategic direction, staffing, budgeting, designing and revising curriculum, implementing continuous improvements, completing AACSB accreditation requirements, overseeing Assurance of Learning processes, and documenting annual accomplishments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the School undergraduate and graduate programs and ensuring that curricula, instruction, assessment, research, and outreach are marked by innovation, quality, and alignment with AACSB accreditation guidelines. All activities above must adhere to the policies, procedures, and strategic plans of the College and University.

  • Oversee administration of the School which includes staffing courses, managing budgets, supervising staff and graduate assistants, engaging with fundraising efforts, leading faculty-related activities (recruitment, hiring, development, collaborative engagement in meaningful evaluations), and ensuring efficient and effective daily operations.

  • Articulate and pursue a vision of growth for the School (developed in collaboration with faculty and consistent with College and University goals) that fosters success for all stakeholders across all programs and domains.

  • Provide effective leadership, representation, and advocacy for the School at the College and University levels including establishment and implementation of School, College, and University policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Advise the Dean in service to the College as a member of the Dean's Executive Council.

  • Form and maintain relationships with individuals in the University and local community.

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in discipline.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates will possess an earned doctorate degree (Ph.D., D.B.A.) with a concentration in management or a related field from an AACSB-accredited institution and meet College eligibility requirements for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or above. Candidates must have a record of scholarship which qualifies as "Scholarly Academic," and they must be able to demonstrate evidence of excellence in scholarly research, collegiate teaching, and institutional/professional service. Candidates must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to deliver accurate, concise, and effective communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner. Encourages an open exchange of ideas among differing perspectives. Adapts communication style to meet the needs of diverse audiences and situations. Listens to understand others.

  • Works to develop and manage productive relationships with stakeholder groups. Effectively engages and interacts with others to collaborate and provide value-added support that enhances the results and effectiveness of the School. Affects short outcomes and direction of stakeholder decisions with relationships built on trust and credibility.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred applicants will meet the Minimum Qualifications and also be able to demonstrate experience with (1) academic leadership, (2) AACSB accreditation, and (3) a commitment to both applied and general training programs (at the undergraduate and graduate levels).
