Job Summary

The Video Production Coordinator is responsible for producing high-quality videos in support of the University’s strategic communication goals, including content for the University’s website and social media channels. The Video Production Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Marketing Communications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Films and edits content for digital platforms in support of the University’s strategic communication goals. Ensures that high production value and University brand standards are maintained.

  • Assists with pre-production tasks such as location scouting, equipment preparation, and set assembly. Conducts both field-based and studio production and assists with the transportation and operation of video and audio related equipment.

  • Edits high-profile video projects, completing a full range of editing tasks such as inserting voiceover, selecting music, developing transitions, and color correction.

  • Collaborates with other University Communications staff to ensure all quality standards are met. Maintains knowledge of proper video specifications for relevant platforms and ensures final projects meet those specifications.

  • Maintains an effective system for organizing and managing media assets.

  • Assists with live streaming of high-profile University events and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in videography, mass media, public relations, communications, or a closely related field. One year of professional experience (within the last three years) shooting video and editing with Adobe Premiere Pro. Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of cinematography and videography best practice

  • Knowledge of lighting and exposure best practices

  • Ability to think conceptually to tell stories through video

  • Ability to complete digital video and audio editing

  • Ability to complete sound recording

  • Knowledge of composition best practices

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under deadlines

  • Ability to adequately convey approaches and techniques to team members through written and verbal communication

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events as assigned

  • Ability to travel between USM locations and off-campus events as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with The University of Southern Mississippi. Demonstrated project management experience in a professional setting. Experience with live streaming events (within the last three years).
