We seek leaders who are committed to the community college mission, actively engaged in promoting diversity, and prepared to use their unique strengths and innovation with the goal of student success. * Job Description:* POSITION: Full-Time Veteran Services and Special Populations Coordinator (Special Programs Coordinator): Student Affairs; Haverhill Campus; MCCC/MTA Unit Professional Position; 37.5 hours per week, Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm, Wednesday 11:00am - 7:00pm; Pay Grade 4 SUMMARY: *Reporting to the Director of Special Populations and International Student Support, the Veteran Services and Special Populations Coordinator is responsible for holistically assisting veteran and military service, international, DACA and adult learners with college procedures, programs and services pertaining to enrollment, retention and student success. This position will serve as a point of contact for veteran and military students, while supporting and assisting our other special populations. The Veteran Services and Special Populations Coordinator will also assist with the development and implementation of events and workshops geared toward student success and retention of these populations. *RESPONSIBILITIES: * Specific duties for this position include: * Serve as the school certifying official (SCO) for federal educational benefits supported the United States Department of Veteran Services (VA) * Actively use student success management systems such as Banner, Navigate, Zogotech, etc. * Ensure that the college is compliant with all state and federal regulations concerning veterans' educational benefits (all chapters) and proactively educate oneself on all aspects of these regulations * Provides outreach, support and services to students who are military-connected * Responsible for processing all VA students related disbursements and invoices * Work with student veterans to develop, plan, organize Veterans Day and Memorial Day activities and events * Develop, assess and facilitate co-curricular programming including leadership, social, and educational programs * Provide information, assistance and guidance to current and prospective students regarding college programs, financial services, program intake processes, student support services, and advising processes such as course registration and transfer. * Serves as a resource for veterans and military connected families * Serve as an advocate to veteran and other special population students providing admissions, financial aid, registration guidance, and works closely with the academic advising team * Assists with verifying and processing veteran and international student's enrollment paperwork * Participate in college activities aimed at improving the campus climate for special populations - including veteran friendly services and an increased awareness on campus of the educational challenges and needs of veteran students * Responsible for accurately responding to inquiries about the services from students, staff and the community in a courteous and professional manner through telephone, email, social media, and/or personal communication and schedule appointments as appropriate. * Offer students solutions to overcome barriers to retention and/or registration. * Promote the use of the student portal by guiding program participants through its various uses such as registration, payments, financial aid tracking status and student academic statuses; * Resolve participant challenges by clarifying issues; researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions; implementing solutions to aid with persistence; escalating unresolved problems. * Serve as a liaison to faculty, staff, and community members in response to challenges with Special Populations students * Collaborate with all departments to ensure a seamless placement and support process for all special population students. * Assist in implementing retention activities such as emailing or making phone calls to current or prospective students, collecting or reviewing data to inform retention strategies. * Serve as DSO (Designated School Official) in absence of the international student advisor * Maintain files and records * Performs other duties as assigned * The Classification Specification is available at: https://www.mass.edu/shared/classificationspecs/specsmccc/Special Programs Coordinator - HB 1112.doc *PLEASE NOTE, WE DO NOT REVIEW APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED THROUGH MASSCAREERS. PLEASE APPLY VIA THE LINK BELOW: https://necc.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=183382 * *Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other field related to area of assignment; with three (3) years' experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include college registration, academic advisement, career development, career experience, training, program/project management or administrative work in academic environment/ or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience. * Working knowledge of veteran and military educational benefits, including experience with certifying benefits for veterans * Experience working with veteran and service member needs and supports in a higher education setting * Knowledge of and experience in leadership, policy development, programming and events management * Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations * Strong coordination and organizational skills * Experience successfully planning, executing and evaluating programs and initiatives. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Commitment to providing excellent customer service * Creative problem-solving abilities * Excellent attention to detail PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's Degree in Student Affairs or related field * Banner Student Information Systems experience * Knowledge of immigration regulations * Experience working in community college * Bilingual (Spanish/English) * Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment. * Additional Information:* GRADE AND SALARY: Anticipated salary range is $60,730.00 to $65,428.00 (MCCC Pay Grade 4 with a Bachelor's degree) annually with complete fringe benefit package. Complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, free dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits.
