HAWTHORNE COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL IS SEEKING A FULL-TIME PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER AT OUR WESTCHESTER LOCATION , IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY

Organization Profile: Hawthorne Foundation Inc. serves children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Our educational, vocational and life skills programs are only a few of the programs available. We also offer parent training, recreational activities and crisis intervention.

Mission: An Applied Behavior Analysis approach to lifelong quality educational, habilitative, vocational and recreational programs for individuals with autism and other intellectual disabilities.

Our goal is to enable each and every individual to reach his/her maximum potential in the least restrictive environment by selecting and promoting educational practices that are grounded in research and science, in particular applied behavior analysis; and, to assist each individual with identifying and realizing his/her own goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Programming

  • The Physical Education Teacher develops a physical education program curriculum for the school age population (elementary/middle/high).

  • Develops weekly and daily programs with educational personnel to establish and attain goals for each individual student (i.e. weekly lesson plans).

  • The Physical Education Teacher conducts a daily program in physical education for the school age population, and documents daily progress.

  • The Physical Education Teacher promotes and attends Special Olympic Training Programs/Community programs for the benefit of the students and the community.

  • The Physical Education Teacher assists in the establishment of intramurals and/or interscholastic sports programs for all students.

  • The Physical Education Teacher provides supplemental trainings in accordance with IDEA.

Job Type: Full-time

Required education: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education

Required experience (if applicable):

  • An ability or some experience in the development of appropriate physical education and recreation programs for the developmentally disabled.

  • An ability to supervise and train staff in physical education and recreation techniques as they relate to special education.

Required license or certification (if applicable): New York State Teacher Certificate-Physical Education, Certification in CPR and Basic First Aid
