St. Peters Health Cancer Treatment Center Unit Based Educator - 1.0 FTE in Helena, Montana
JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): Provides clinical education leadership for St. Peter’s nursing unit. Functions in the role as a clinician, educator, consultant, and supporter of research. Acts as a leader, innovator and change agent to foster improved nursing quality care, staff and patient experience. Develops and ensures quality standards and competencies for nursing practice for specific populations. Collaborates with all of St. Peter’s entities to establish, develop, implement and maintain quality improvement programs, policies, procedures and standards to guide professional practice and meet regulatory requirements. Collaborates with nursing leadership and education professionals to coordinate, influence, and assist with the implementation of nursing care and related nursing activities at the nursing unit level.
Assesses, develops and implements orientation and education programs for department staff to positively impact the quality of patient care.
Works in collaboration with nursing leadership and nursing staff to identify areas of improvement
Accepts responsibility for maintaining and developing own skill and knowledge in the clinical work area by providing direct patient care.
Serves as a resource to clinical staff in the specific area of clinical expertise.
Demonstrates the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team

Maintains an awareness of evidenced based nursing and research in clinical area

Collaborates with department leadership about concerns/issues related to clinical competence, equipment, and care delivery systems related to specific patient care problems/populations.
Responsible for the development and evaluation of knowledge and skills validation.
Use of “Just in time“teaching methods when indicated (request of learner, new process, new technology).
Use of formal evaluation tools (Learning Management System, testing, self-assessment and/or return demonstrations).
Use of informal evaluation methods (observation and verbal coaching).
Assesses the educational needs of staff and identifies learning needs.
