    Immediate opening for a Centralized Maintenance/Grounds Worker At Helena Public schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As a Centralized Maintenance/Grounds Worker you contribute to this mission by keeping the District and grounds in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interuptions to the education program. You will work as part of a team of 70+ maintenance employees serving 8,000 students and 21 campuses across Helena. This position operates a variety of equipment and performs labor under supervision to contribute to the development and maintenance of Helena Public School grounds. Responsible for maintenance of district properties, facilities and equipment. Some of what you will do:

  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of the district grounds through the following activities, including but not limited to: planting, mowing, watering, weeding, snow removal, trash collection, sign installation/replacement and a variety of other related tasks.

  • Operates vehicles, equipment, and a variety of hand and small power tools as required to support grounds operations.

  • Performs cleaning/maintenance of district facilities.

  • Performs sports field maintenance by fertilizing, weed spraying, grass seeding, dragging and leveling infields, and watering.

  • Performs various light maintenance as needed.

  • Performs general labor work inside and outside district facilities including but not limited to: district wide grounds-keeping; craft support; construction removal/remodel support; handling materials and supplies; activity set-up, support, and removal; field marking; building equipment transfers; operating power-driven equipment; truck driving; snow and ice removal;; roofing; mowing; refuse removal, and maintenance of underground sprinkler systems, etc.

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid Montana Commercial Drivers’ license is desired;

  • Valid Montana Department of Agriculture Pesticide/Herbicide Applicators license is desired;

  • Valid Montana low pressure Boilers license is desired;

  • Experience operating various types of heavy equipment;

  • Experience operating various types of shop equipment, Drill Press, Table Saw, etc;

  • Experience in construction (roofing, framing, concrete, basic plumbing, minor electrical, etc;

  • Experience with mechanical system equipment maintenance (filter changes, equipment lubrication, belt adjustment and replacement, etc;

  • Experience with irrigation system installation and repair;

  • Experience with snow removal;

    To become part of this dedicated team, you need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;

  • Five years' experience in grounds maintenance or related work and/or training;

  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District;

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral diretions, and work cooperatively with others;

  • General knowledge of methods, supplies, and tools used in maintaining school grounds in a safe, clean and orderly condition is desired.

    Essential functions of the position include the ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as a toolbox and/or buildding suplies. Occasionaly the empoyee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as bulk furniture with or without a reasonable accommodation.
