Job Summary:

The Senior GL Accountant is a part of Akima’s Shared Services Corporate Accounting team. This position reports to the Manager of Accounting and has a central role to manage the consolidated balance sheet for over 60 legal entities. The Senior Accountant is part of a team of seven staff who reconcile, analyze, and resolve a series of general ledger accounts and implement process improvements for the Company’s financial reporting. The individual will be working in a fast paced and dynamic environment to support many of the accounting processes related to month-end close, quarterly reporting, and year-end financial audit preparation.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accurate financial reporting for the company’s 60+ entities.

  • Perform monthly fixed assets entries, update records for additions/transfers/disposals, and maintain depreciation schedules for the company’s fixed assets.

  • Perform monthly amortization entries for incentive compensation and other prepayments, including update of records for additions, and updating amortization schedules.

  • Perform regular account reconciliations, including monthly IWO reconciliations, resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Prepare month-end close journal entries, including expense accruals or any other entries as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures to maintain the integrity of financial records.

  • Assist in IT initiatives, including system enhancements to improve efficiency and effectiveness, as well as troubleshooting and resolving system issues with the IT team.

  • Provide customer service and accounting support to business operation teams.

  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting principles.

  • Strong Communication and Excel skills.

  • This Hybrid position requires that you live within commuting distance from Herndon, VA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in GL accounting for government contractor.

  • CPA or CPA candidate.

  • Proficiency in Deltek Costpoint.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in managing fixed assets and prepaid expenses is preferred.

  • Previous experience at an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC).

Posted Salary Range

90,000 - 110,000
