Position Summary:

Washington Gas is seeking a Gate Station Technician for our Dranesville, VA Gate Station. The Gate Station Technician assists in the safe operation and maintenance of gate station facilities and pressure regulating equipment (GSO facilities). Under the direction of higher-graded personnel, this role involves operating, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and installing equipment of a less complex nature at GSO facilities. The Technician also operates a company vehicle and inputs time and data into the workforce management system electronically.

What You'll Do:

  • Operations and Maintenance:

  • Assist in the operations and maintenance of GSO facilities.

  • Perform periodic station inspections and maintenance work on GSO facility equipment and machinery.

  • Operate valves as required and handle miscellaneous duties around the stations, such as yard and building maintenance, snow removal, painting, grass cutting, and trimming.

  • Install tubing, conduit, wiring, piping, and framework for all GSO facilities.

  • Equipment and Tool Management:

  • Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.

  • Stock and equip company vehicles as needed.

  • Communication and Documentation:

  • Interpret company records, including map books, station drawings, and work orders.

  • Communicate effectively through company radio, verbal instructions, and other means.

  • Input time and data accurately into the workforce management system electronically.

  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in related business support and administrative activities, such as backend meter processing, corrosion processing, leak/damage prevention processing, peer safety observations, vehicle clean-out, and cross-functional training.

  • Safely operate company vehicles.

  • Be available for shift work and report to various company facilities as required.

  • Overnight travel may be necessary.

What You Bring:

  • Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of 18 months of hands-on technical experience in mechanical trades, manufacturing equipment, pumps, compressors, automotive mechanics, small engine repair, HVAC, electronics, or above-ground gas piping and tubing.

  • Formal technical training is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of mathematics, physics, and electronics.

  • Certifications and Testing:

  • Must pass the ACT Work Keys Test before an interview.

  • New hires must pass the Gate Station Technician I entrance-level testing and complete all training, testing, and Operator Qualifications for the Gate Station Technician II position within 18 months of hire.

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • CDL holders are subject to testing under federal highway regulations.

  • Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to smell odorized natural gas.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and drawing interpretation skills are required.

  • Intermediate computer skills required, including file management, data entry, creating and modifying spreadsheets and Word documents, and professional email communications skills.
