JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Office of the Controller, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Financial Specialist. This position is needed to provide strategic research advice and guidance to the Research Manager and Department Financial Analysts, to develop and manage the Post Award Accounting duties for about 130 Clinical Trials for about 6 unique clinical departments. The post award accounting duties include review daily transactions, journal entries, work in STAR and Oncore systems, along with Greenphire, to ensure compliance with fiduciary guidelines and policies. This position will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial data and monthly financial reporting for the clinical trials awarded of which we have 539 currently active Clinical Trials, totaling $48m in funding.

This position will be responsible for performing advanced analysis and reconciliation of complex accounting records and interpreting analytical results, researching and resolving complex accounting problems and/or discrepancies, and developing appropriate accounting processes to proactively create accurate financial data. The successful candidate will also be able to correspond with and provide accounting support and training to other COM and HMC financial staff as needed, field and answer questions regarding financial operations/accounting/policy/etc. They will also work closely with their manager to provide financial data and schedules to the central finance offices for the University as needed. Closely manages complex research accounts (clinical trials) for all COM Research Departments.

On the Research Team, this role will help develop the processes for new members and will be the first go to person for all clinical trial accountants on the team when anything comes up that needs further review or guidance. This role will also work closely with the Research Manager on complex clinical trials. This role will help to ensure that the Research Teams functions efficiently by helping the Research Manager identify areas of improvement in workflow and process structures.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 3+ years of relevant experience

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
