JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A full-time Research Technologist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Anirban Paul in the Neural and Behavioral Sciences Department at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. The work in the laboratory is focused on understanding neurodevelopment, neuronal aging and age-associated neurodegeneration.

The principal research roles of this job will include, single cell sorting and single cell spotting from rodent and human brain tissue samples, preparing RNA libraries, performing spatial transcriptomics, maintenance of cell culture, using molecular and genetic tools to manipulate gene expression in cell culture systems, immunofluorescence techniques, analysis of gene and protein expression. If desired and qualified, independent research opportunities will be available.

Management functions of the position include managing inventory, ordering of supplies, upkeep of equipment, and help train students in lab techniques. Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel) and knowledge on using statistical programs such as R, GraphPad Prism, and JASP, with proficiency in Python programming language. Candidates must be willing to learn new techniques, responsible, self-motivated, conscientious, flexible, a good communicator, and possess strong organizational skills. Candidates will be expected to contribute to the development and design of research projects under the direction of faculty.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 1+ years of relevant experience

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$38,300.00 - $55,500.00
