Jefferson County Government Construction Inspector in Hillsboro, Missouri

JOB SUMMARY

The position involves performing routine semi-skilled and technical construction inspection work for sewer, street, landscaping and other development projects and programs. Assures compliance with Federal, State and local codes and standards and contractual provisions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Reviews approved development plans for compliance with codes, regulations, and standards, adequacy of applications for permits and compliance with approved plans.
  • Assists with review of sanitary sewer, water, and storm drainage designs.
  • Inspects and approves all phases of public and private construction and improvement work to assure that the appropriate construction is completed in compliance with the plans, standards, specifications, special requirements, codes and regulations.
  • Issues correction notices or approvals as required.
  • Inspects and approves construction and installation of streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, driveways, and related utilities and structures as assigned.
  • Inspects construction work under excavation, clearing and grading permits.
  • Coordinates activities and schedules with utility companies, contractors, property owners and other City departments.
  • Resolves conflicts within scope of authority.
  • Maintains regular contact with consulting engineers, construction project engineers, Federal, State and County Agencies.
  • Assures as-built records of projects, and documents necessary plan changes.
  • Coordinates escrow inspections with the Project Manager to ensure that improvements are timely installed, and agreements are properly renewed or released.
  • Provides information and responds to inquiries from contractors, property owners, staff, and the general public regarding assigned projects.
  • Maintains a variety of logs and records related to employees, work assignments and inspection activities.
  • Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the training of other County personnel in design and construction techniques.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Private Contractor and the Engineer of the project and/or Residents affected.
  • Compiles information and prepares construction reports as required.
  • Reviews field staking and makes revisions within scope of authority.
  • Performs work at assigned location during specified business hours.
  • Performs related additional duties as required and assigned.
