Ed Herrington Inc Accounting Assistant - Part Time in Hillsdale, New York

Ed Herrington Inc. is currently seeking part time Accounting Assistant (20 to 25 hours per week) for daytime Monday – Friday, 7a – 4p, flexible schedule.

Summary:

Computes, classifies, records, and verifies numerical data for use in maintaining accounting records by performing the following duties. May be assigned in areas of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or general company accounting needs with associated job responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Verifies, allocates, and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals via the current accounting application software.

  • Compiles reports to show statistics such as cash receipts and disbursements, accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, sales and income taxes and other items pertinent to the operation of the business.

  • Assists in preparation and mailing of monthly statements to customers.

  • Performs general office tasks including reception, typing, word processing, correspondence composition and preparation, and mail processing.

  • Enters, verifies & posts accounts payable invoices. Routes to responsible manager for payment authorization.

  • Responds to vendor inquiries and requests documentation from vendors to resolve discrepancies.

  • Enters, verifies, and posts accounts receivable transactions.

  • Responds to customer inquiries.

  • Prepares checks and cash for deposit.

  • Prepares checks for signature, stamps invoices “PAID” and maintains files of paid and pending invoices.

  • Reconciles general ledger accounts with subsidiary ledgers and source documents.

  • Participates in all required training assignments.

  • Displays teamwork and effort in performance of all duties.

Education and/or Experience:

Associate's degree (A.A.S.) in accounting or business or similar degree from two-year college or technical school; or 3-5 years related experience in bookkeeping or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience in building materials industry may be substituted for education requirements.

Clear communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Mathematical Skills

High degree of match aptitude including the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists resulting in a reasonable and accurate conclusion that can be well communicated. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical requirements

This position is a sedentary role with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; however, while performing the duties of this job the employee will need to frequently communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information; consistently operate a computer and other office equipment. The employee will need to occasionally move about to meet with customers, access files, and use other office equipment. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Working Environment

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
