Non-Regular,

Full-Time, Limited Term (up to three (3) years in duration), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Institute for Astronomy (IfA), located in Hilo, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $5,981 - $7,041/Mon.

DUTIES:

Plays a leading role in the development of medium and large format linear mode avalanche photodiode (LmAPD) HgCdTe arrays for ground and space-based infrared astronomy. Performs laboratory characterization, radiation testing, and on-sky validation. Engages in both collaborative and independent observational research using various telescopes at Mauna Kea. Publishes research findings and mentors graduate and undergraduate students.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION PhD from an accredited college or university in astronomy, physics, optics, electrical engineering, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE One to three (1-3) years of experience in instrumentation.

KNOWLEDGE Proficient knowledge in astronomical instrumentation.

ABILITIES and SKILLS Basic ability to analyze data from infrared cameras or similar instruments. Proficiency in Python, or similar programming language. Demonstrated capacity for independent work as well as teamwork.

Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
