Job Summary

The Director, Enterprise Safety Strategy is responsible for leading, developing and improving CN’s safety initiatives. The position involves creating and implementing strategic safety plans and fostering a culture of safety across the operations. The incumbent collaborates with various teams to ensure compliance with safety regulations, consistency across functions and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

Main Responsibilities

Safety Strategy Implementation

· Develop and implement a proactive safety strategy that integrates best practices, industry standards, and innovative approaches across the operations

· Ensure alignment of safety initiatives with organizational objectives and regulatory standards

· Develop, refine, and communicate safety policies and procedures

· Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations

· Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into daily operations

· Engage with external safety agencies and stakeholders to maintain best practices and industry standards

Stakeholder Collaboration

· Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate safety initiatives into overall business strategies

· Collaborate with cross-functional departments to address findings and implement corrective actions

· Lead cross-functional collaboration and communication among Safety and other departments to support the implementation of safety initiatives and projects

Reporting

· Analyze data and trends to proactively address emerging safety concerns

· Provide regular and comprehensive reports to executive leadership on safety performance metrics and milestones

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires occasional travel within the United States (U.S.) and Canada.

Requirements

Experience

Specialty

· Minimum 8 years of railroad operations experience in a safety specific role

· Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in railway safety management, with a focus on strategic planning and implementation

o Experience in Training Behavior Based Safety concepts

o Safety background*

Education/Certification/Designation

· Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field*

· Master’s Degree in Safety Management, Risk Management or Business Administration*

Technical Skills/Knowledge

· Knowledge of railway safety regulations, standards, and best practices

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

· Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)*
