DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Social Services Aide 1 is an entry level position and works closely with caseworkers and other social service aides to provide services in the home to families with children after a caseworker has visited and determined services to be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to provide one-on-one assistance and communication with families to work toward positive goals and outcomes. Duties may include assistance in all areas of family life including but not limited to household budgeting, in-home parenting education, proper hygiene, nutrition, cooking /food shopping skills and maintenance of the home. You may be responsible for transporting consumers to supervised visitation and necessary appointments, providing childcare when necessary, and assisting with the completion of applications and forms. Additional responsibilities may include: Completing written reports of each appointment with consumers Participating in meetings with other staff to develop treatment plans and set goals for consumers Attending court and testifying, if needed Performing clerical office duties as needed

Duties may include frequent standing, climbing steps, and walking distances as a normal part of the job duties. You must have the ability to climb flights of steps in homes or apartment buildings where no elevators are present. In order to succeed in this position, you must be able to manage multiple tasks, meet strict deadlines, and pay close attention to details under a constantly changing work environment. Work also includes traveling to areas that may not be accessible to public transportation, as well as routine evening and weekend work hours.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. On-call hours when required. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Graduation from high school; or Any equivalent combination of training and experience. Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, or Wayne counties. Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation. A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
