Queen's Health System Database Administrator - Information Mgmt Technical (Full Time, 40, Day) in Honolulu, Hawaii
RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages, administers, organizes, monitors, and maintains databases (DB) to support The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS) operations across all data domains (e.g. clinical, financial, employee, and patient experience). QHS is predominately, but not exclusively, a Microsoft SQL Server environment.
• Responsible for integrity of databases including, backup, recovery, capacity planning, security management, troubleshooting and issue resolution. Applies Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and application DB updates as assigned.
• Performs tuning/optimization, testing, disaster recovery, development and ensures data quality.
• Provides consulting support to the Data Architecture team in all aspects of design, development and deployment of Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW), applications and analytic solutions, including supporting data model/flow design and metadata accuracy.
• Maintains and monitors the health of upstream/downstream data flows in support of EDW operations, business intelligence (BI) initiatives and third party application suites.
• Trains and mentors junior-level team members in aspects of database administration.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Essential: sitting, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting, pushing and carrying items up to usual weight of 5 pounds.
• Continuous: reaching above, at and below shoulders; repetitive arm/hand motion and frequent gripping of objects.
• Frequent: standing, walking, stooping/bending, and twisting body.
• Operates various office equipment such as computers, copiers, 10-key adding machine, typewriter, facsimile, telephone, shredder etc.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (IT) or related field; or four (4) years experience in information technology may be substituted for the education requirement.
B. EXPERIENCE:
• In addition to the education requirement, five (5) years experience in database administration including the following:
o Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
o Experience with backups, restores, maintenance plans and recovery models.
o Advanced database object development, beyond tables and views, such as hand-coded stored procedures, user-defined functions, check constraints, indexing methods, partitioning, filestream.
o Experience with installing, upgrading, adding features and configuring MS SQL Server instances and migrating databases.
o Hands on experience with Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) applications, Microsoft SQL Server – Integration Services (SSIS).
o Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
o Thorough knowledge of practices, policies, and systems.
o Demonstrated application of information technology data and programming principles, theories, concepts, and best practice (e.g. requirements documentation, source code control, change management, promotions, and segregation of duties).
o Core tenants of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) principles, processes, technologies and tools including management.
• Strong sense of customer service to consistently and effectively address business and clinical partners’ needs.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities and direction in projects and core work.
• Enjoys participating in a collaborative work environment partnering with colleagues inside and outside of own department.

V. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Graduate degree.
• Database (Oracle, Teradata, DB2, Sybase), Microsoft, Developer certifications.
B. EXPERIENCE:
• Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
• Experience with Replication, Log Shipping, and/or Mirroring.
• Experience with MS SQL Server - Reporting Services (SSRS), and Analysis Services (SSAS).
• Experience with other enterprise class database systems (e.g. Teradata, Oracle, DB2, Sybase, MySQL).
• Working with healthcare data systems, understanding of clinical operational measures, including experience with Electronic Medical/Health Record Systems (EMR/HER) and data (Epic/Clarity, ideally).
• Experience with healthcare regulatory and clinical quality measurements frameworks such as NCQA HEDIS, Meaningful Use, PQRS, OPPE, CORE measures, etc.
• General understanding of analytics and statistics.
• Familiarity with development methodologies including the AGILE development approaches.
• Experience with Qlikview or other similar visualization and analysis tools (e.g. Tableau).
• Experience with data-driven web application development, e.g. ASP.net.
• Experience with scorecard/dashboarding visualizations to sustain and drive process improvement.
• Prior experience in leading projects and/or work streams and assignments.
Experience with Big Data structures, platforms, programming languages such as R, Hadoop, Hive, NoSQL, Cloudera, MongoDB, predictive analytics, machine learning
• Self-motivated; comfortable working independently under general direction.
