BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P ZL CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Department of the P OPERATIONS PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Manager Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Provides leadership, professional guidance, and sets strategic direction for the C&M Construction Management and Inspection Division related to the installation and retirement of the Company’s transmission, sub-transmission, and distribution systems. Manages internal and external resources to optimize the reliability and efficiency of the transmission, sub-transmission and distribution system. Manages and leads C&M construction inspectors on asset inspections, repair orders and contractor installations. Leads and oversees the Division’s succession planning goals and effort and ensures optimal staffing and utilization of resources. Leads and implements LEAN continuous improvement best practices to enhance and achieve operational excellence with a safety mindset.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages and instrumental in setting direction of the C&M Construction Management and Inspection Division. Provides overall leadership and professional guidance; identifies resource requirements (including contractors); sets performance and service standards; and evaluates achievement of goals and objectives in line with department goals and objectives. Oversees and directs optimal utilization of the Division’s resources and ensures availability to meet changing operating needs.

  • Formulates the Division’s succession planning goals, objectives and plans, and directs the implementation of plans to continuously enhance workforce quality and the Division’s professional capability and expertise, and provide continuity and long-term sustenance. Develops career development and staff training plans and implements training.

  • Provides technical and professional advice to the team/work groups and across the Company. Identifies appropriate systems and processes for increased productivity and effectiveness.

  • Manages and administers all personnel matters of a portion of the Department, including performance appraisals and interviews; recognition of employee achievements; and disciplinary actions. Ensures the safety and coordinates the training of all personnel under supervision.

  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable (overhead and/or underground) transmission and distribution engineering standards and work practices; inspection and maintenance program development/implementation; training program development/implementation.

  • Good working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting processes (including annual Operating Forecast; Capital Budgets; vehicle, equipment, tools; office furniture and equipment; etc.)

  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, database management, etc.)

  • Knowledge of the union contract, Company policies, department policies and practices.

  • Thorough knowledge of LEAN continuous improvement principles and best practices to achieve operational excellence.

  • Thorough knowledge of SafeStart principles and best practices to achieve a safe workplace environment.

    Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including effective written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the willingness and ability to train.

  • Must have or be able to qualify for licenses/certificates as required by the Company/Department (i.e., Professional Engineering License PE, Contractor’s C13, C63, etc.).

  • Supports two-way communications to ensure a focused well informed workforce. Promotes teamwork and self-directed workforce to support company initiatives.

  • Troubleshooting skills to determine operating and maintenance problems with the units and equipment.

  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.

  • Ability to handle difficult or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.

    Experience Requirements

  • Extensive (7+) years of field or design experience in the construction, installation, and maintenance of sub-transmission and distribution facilities and equipment.

  • Multiple years (5+) of related work experience in a supervisory capacity and with contracting work.

  • Few years (2-3) of related experience in preparing operating budgets and managing expenses.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for the Superintendent, Construction Management and Inspection [Req ID 9151] position is $118,200.00 to $153,600.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
