Queen's Health System Pharmacy Technician-Discharge (Full-Time, 40, Varied Shifts) in Honolulu, Hawaii

RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists the Clinical Pharmacist in the processing and filling of prescriptions and medication/medical supply orders.

• Reviews and enters orders and patient information into the pharmacy computer system.

• Processes and assists in the maintenance of pharmacy inventory.

• Provides customers/patients with information about medications, health insurance, and other health care related services.

• Files third-party insurance claims on paper and electronically.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Essential: standing, walking, stooping/bending, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking; pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds of force for 200 feet, carrying up to 40 pounds for 200 feet.

• Frequent: climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, reaching above/at/below shoulder, repetitive arm/hand motions, static gripping of an object for prolonged period, frequent gripping of an object.

• Occasional: sitting, kneeling, crawling, squatting, twisting body.

• Operates various office/pharmaceutical equipment such as, computer, copier, fax, telephones, calculator, etc.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

• Exposure to noise/vibration from office/pharmacy equipment.

• Exposure to body fluids, chemicals and contact with patients with communicable diseases. Works on multiple tasks at the same time.

• Work environment is fast paced, crowded and may be stressful.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Completion of pharmacy technical program or on-the-job education/pharmacy work experience preferred.

B. EXPERIENCE:

• One (1) year work experience, preferably as pharmacy technician/clerk.

• Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

• Ability to use a computer, type, operate calculator.

• Ability to convert easily among fractions, decimals, percentages, and mixed numbers.
