Actalent Cyber Security Engineer in Hood River, Oregon

Description:

This position is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure software solutions for advanced military applications. Their gimbal needs to be hardened from a security standpoint. Short term the work will be focused on their edge computing product. It will require hardening the OS, the networking, and securing sw deployments via docker.

Requirements:

-Experience with Linux OS hardening (embedded linux OR linux OS)

-Experience with network security (switches/routers)

-Experience hardening computing systems running on ARM processors

-Experience in C/C+

  • -Experience with a combination of the following: encrypted messages, message verification

    -Experienced with security assessments, penetration tests, and code reviews

Job Duties:

  • Design, develop, and test secure embedded UAV software applications including video-streams, computer-vision, artificial-intelligence, guidance, targeting, and control systems.

  • Implement security measures, such as encryption, access controls, and secure communication protocols on embedded computer systems to protect sensitive software systems from cyber threats.

  • Conduct security assessments, penetration tests, and code reviews to identify and mitigate potential vulnerabilities in gimbal software systems.

  • Collaborate with engineers and specialists to integrate security features throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Maintain thorough documentation of software designs, security protocols, and compliance with military standards and regulations.

  • Understand and measure how well software solutions adhere to relevant cybersecurity frameworks, standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001), and military specifications (e.g., DoD 8510).

  • Stay informed about emerging cybersecurity threats in deployed UAV operations and incorporate this knowledge into software development practices to enhance security measures.

Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • Experience in software development using C and C++, particularly in real-time systems is required. Experience using Docker and container orchestration tools in a secure manner is preferred.

  • Experience working with and securing embedded Linux systems running on ARM processors is required. NVIDIA and Qualcomm architectures preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience of cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies, including secure coding practices and threat modeling.

  • Familiarity with image processing, computer vision, artificial intelligence, controls, and guidance principles is highly desirable.

  • Experience with cybersecurity tools and techniques (e.g., static and dynamic analysis, intrusion detection systems).

  • Knowledge of safety-critical software development standards (e.g., DO-178C) and security frameworks (e.g., Common Criteria) is preferred.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments.

Work Environment

This is a remote role that requires travel to hood river, OR 1 week a month. Ideally this person sits in Oregon, Colorado or WA. But they could also have remote workforce in TX, MT, UT and CA. The reason they need to travel is because they are a hardware focused company and they can\'t ship the hardware to peoples\' houses. Many folks will fly in Monday and leave Friday, with Tues-Thurs being full days in the office.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Nvidia or Qualcomm processors would be great, with ARM architecture

strongly preferred they come from a background of image processing, computer vision, artificial intelligence, controls, and guidance
