We have an exciting opportunity for an Active Thermal Control System (ATCS) Project Manager to join our team with the Engineering Division.

We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews.

As a Project Manageryou will:

  • Build a capable, cooperative and supportive team for the qualification, manufacturing, testing, certification, and sustaining engineering of engineering projects in active thermal control systems.

  • Provide budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating support.

  • Monitor cost performance for their project against established plans.

  • Develop and maintain company and customer financial reports.

  • Oversee and develop schedules, procedures, work instructions and process flows.

  • Develop risks and risk mitigation plans for rollup into the higher-level risk system.

  • Interact frequently with inter-organizational disciplines, NASA System Managers, and operational customers.

  • Direct and hold accountable matrix organizations in the requirements development, design, manufacturing, testing, and certification of flight hardware.

  • Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from accomplishment of engineering tasks.

  • Address project problems in a timely and straightforward manner.

  • Define, communicate and mitigate project risks.

  • Establish a healthy project environment.

  • Foster strong, healthy customer relationships.

  • Coordinate and support flight hardware and software products and systems development phases, through design, procurement, fabrication, test, data analysis, certification, and flight/mission delivery.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • Must be able to review essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field (including space flight hardware development and certification processes), such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, environmental testing, and office software.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules and to work unsupervised for long periods.

Requisition Preferences:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and fourteen (14) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and nine (9) years of related experience.

  • Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures.

  • Familiar with the spacecraft and ATCS systems.

  • The ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.

  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
