UTHealth Assistant Professor, Center for Laboratory Animal Medicine and Care - Clinical Laboratory Animal Veterinarian - 24000326 in Houston, Texas

UTHealth Houston , Center for Laboratory Animal Medicine and Care (CLAMC) , seeks a highly motivated professional Clinical Veterinarian to work with the current veterinary staff and the Executive Director. CLAMC manages and operates all of the animal care and uses facilities at UTHealth and provides investigator training and support for its research programs. The mission of the CLAMC is to ensure the humane care and use of animals in research and teaching and to support biomedical research in UTHealth Houston's McGovern Medical School , School of Dentistry , Cizik School of Nursing , School of Public Health , and MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences .

Position Key Accountabilities:

The veterinarian will be responsible for the clinical veterinary care of research animals; and management of veterinary care and associated programs to ensure compliance with accrediting and regulatory organizations. This is a non-tenure research track position.

Qualifications:

A DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary college or ECFVG/PAVE foreign equivalency certification.

Active veterinary license in at least one U.S. state; must be eligible to acquire a Texas veterinary license if not already licensed in Texas.

Eligibility for DEA controlled substances registration.

At least two years of recent and relevant experience working as a clinical veterinarian in a laboratory animal program or completion of a laboratory animal residency.

Experience in reviewing animal protocols and amendments is preferred as all veterinarians perform reviews and participate in other regulatory duties.

Current and relevant working knowledge of animal research regulations and guidelines.

Strong interpersonal skills in a team environment with excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.

Proficiency in computer software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position (able to lift, squat, kneel, reach overhead, stand on stools, and wear appropriate PPE for bioexclusion and biohazard areas).
