Position Description

CCUS Business Development Manager

The CCUS Business Development Manager will identify, pursue, and maintain relationships with key CCUS stakeholders and potential customers to develop CCUS projects for Kinder Morgan. This person will identify emission sources of CO2, negotiate agreements across the CCUS value chain including for carbon capture, transportation and sequestration opportunities, potentially build partnering or joint venture relationships with other companies looking to participate in CCUS, and participate in cross functional teams evaluating potential sequestration sites and other related opportunities. CCUS project origination will occur via various entry paths which may include organic development, acquisitions, and alliances, leveraging Kinder Morgan’s experience and expertise in CO2 capture, transportation and sequestration. The CCUS Business Development Manager will report to the Director, Business Development - ETV (Energy Transition Ventures).

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Locate and propose potential CCUS deals by contacting potential customers or partners, discovering and exploring various structures along with M&A opportunities;

  • Evaluate CCUS related strategic opportunities and make recommendations to senior management concerning strategies/tactical plans and, where approved, take requisite action steps to implement

  • Be a customer facing commercial advocate for the CCUS segment of the KM Energy Transition Ventures group

  • Identify and determine feasibility of possible CCUS related transactions and assist in transaction negotiations;

  • Assist in developing and leading project teams (internal and external) as necessary to effectuate transactions through development.

  • Be part of the CCUS due diligence efforts and, where necessary, initial integration

  • Track CCUS market updates for KM ETV, and do appropriate research on emerging technologies in the CCUS space

  • Follow regulatory framework and incentives for CCUS projects, identify opportunities and strategies for KM given current/proposed regulatory environment

  • Participate in corporate ESG activities as requested

  • Job level will be based on the successful candidates skills and experience

    Position Requirements

Educational Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Engineering degree a plus)

  • Advanced degree such as an MBA or MS Economics is a plus

  • 5-7 years of experience relevant to responsibilities and duties described herein;

  • Technical background with the ability to evaluate technical feasibility, recognize operational synergies and seek technology opportunities is a plus;

  • Self-motivated, driven and an ability to work within ambiguous environments;

  • Ability to articulate and achieve goals in unconventional and complex situations with minimal guidance

  • Ability and history of negotiating commercial agreements with counterparties,

  • Understanding of project economics and key deal economic drivers (CAPEX, OPEX, Cash Flows, etc)

  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-level projects at a time; and,

  • Demonstrated history of problem solving and project management with internal and external stakeholders
