POSITION OVERVIEW

Workday & Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm *

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Analyzes, calculates and reports samples for Oil & Grease, Total Suspended Solids, pH, and Conductivity testing as primary duties.

  2. Analyzes, calculates and reports samples for Air Pollution testing as backup duty or as needed.

  3. Prepares reagents, standards, quality control samples, and proficiency samples accurately.

  4. Receives, logs in, and signs off samples as needed.

  5. Periodically, reviews and revises standard operating procedures and other documents.

  6. Monitors testing turnaround times.

  7. Assists with other work-related tasks.

  8. Take initiative in learning more complex tests and instruments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year of laboratory work experience is required.

A Master's or Doctoral degree in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution may be substituted for the required experience.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

None.

PREFERENCES

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
