UTHealth Cytotechnologist I - PRN (Path and Lab Medicine) - 240002R3 in Houston, Texas
Position Summary:
Cytotechnologist responsibilities are associated with the microscopic evaluation and diagnosis of cellular material of gynecologic (GYN) and Non-GYN / FNA specimens under the direction of the Cytology Manager, Director, and Medical Director. Work skills include the ability to evaluate cellular material using established morphologic criteria and to enter a diagnosis into the Cytology LIS.
Position Key Accountabilities:
- Microscopically screens, examines, and interprets all cytology specimens for the presence of abnormal cellular changes and pathogens
- Assists in FNA/ROSE procedures by obtaining, preparing, processing, staining, screening, and diagnosing specimens from various sites of human body
- Performs all tests with care and accuracy to provide correct and informative results to both the pathologist and the department
- Enters diagnostic interpretation into Cytology LIS. Verifies diagnosis and triage QC, abnormal cases, and all Non-GYN / FNA using department's protocol.
- Maintains workload records of slides screened/hours worked per 24-hour period.
- Performs and documents daily microscope maintenance, equipment maintenance, and staining quality check.
- Understands all laboratory policies and procedures.
- Maintains standards in routine high complexity testing and adhere to all CAP and CLIA requirements
- Communicates any reporting or technical problems with supervisor or manager.
- Ensures accuracy of reporting by reviewing results before releasing
- Participates in on going quality assurance activities and continuing education and provide supporting documentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Certification/Skills:
Board certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists CT (ASCP).
Minimum Education:
Bachelor of Science including one-year cytology technical training from a CAAHEP accredited school or Cytotechnology.

Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
