Eaton Corporation Director, Innovation & Technology in Houston, Texas

Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services & Systems (EESS) Division is currently recruiting for a Director, Innovation & Technology. This position is a hybrid work model and can be based at the following locations: Moon Township PA, Raleigh NC, Houston TX, Chicago IL, Boston MA, Austin TX, San Francisco CA, Seattle OR, Phoenix AZ, Salt Lake City UT, or Denver CO.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the SVP/GM EESS, and functionally to the VP, Engineering ES-Americas, the Director, Innovation & Technology is a critical member of the EESS senior leadership team (SLT) and is the primary leader across EESS’s innovation funnel and overall technical competence.

This position sets the strategic priorities and overall direction for the advanced solution development across the service portfolio. In addition, Director, I&T, is accountable to uphold technical competence and capacity as one of the main market differentiators for the division and Eaton as a whole. In this way, this position is critical to ensure that financial, growth, technology, and service productivity objectives are met, and that division continues to have the leadership needed to drive continuous improvement and innovation excellence. Working with the rest of the EESS senior leadership team (SLT), this position will facilitate setting the technology, skills and product roadmaps, training tools and materials, and technical competence and growth objectives in support of the division’s short- and long-term objectives. Finally, this position will coordinate the best talent across Eaton to ensure timely execution at the speed of customer.

As a member of the EESS SLT, this role is responsible for closely collaborating across EESS to ensure the division upholds engineering functional excellence, customer focus, entrepreneurial zeal, and financial performance. The Director, I&T, will work especially closely with Eaton’s talent under the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Digital Officer (CDO), and Electrical Sector CTO to ensure definition of scalable solution architectures, use of best-of-breed tools and processes, and instilling urgency and accountability to operationalize growth through innovation and technology. Finally, this position is responsible for partnering with customers, sales, and marketing to solve the most challenging power systems problems faced by our customers, demonstrating the technical leadership and upholding differentiation of Eaton’s power management solutions.

Essential responsibilities include:

• Accountable for EESS’s innovation funnel coordinating across various enterprise organizations within Eaton, as well as with strategic partners and customers outside Eaton

• Accountable to uphold technical competencies across all engineering talents as a competitive differentiator

• Ensuring EESS’s strategic growth and profitability objectives are met by overseeing the technical competence needs and advanced solution development across overall service portfolio

• Defining, setting, and ultimately overseeing technical competence dashboard that incorporates engineering capability and capacity across the whole division, and feeds into business operating rhythm and strategic hiring decisions

• Ensuring continual improvement through adoption of modern tools and process that further increase innovation effectiveness and technical upskill (e.g., agile portfolio and product management, business model canvas, lean start up, evidence-based learning, etc.)

• Further contributing to the culture of excellence including but not limiting to recruiting, assessment of talent, training & development, goal setting, communications, and performance management, and conformance to applicable company policies and standards

• Works with the ES-Americas business unit engineering leaders, Brightlayer teams, Eaton Research Labs, Electrical Sector Centers of Excellence and other technical leaders to advance innovation and leverage synergies across platforms.

• Participates in industry organizations and associations and maintains relationships with key customer and industry technical leaders.

• Establishes a division power systems solutions strategy, establishes responsibilities within and outside the division, and measures to ensure implementation is realized timely.

• Stay current with standards and technology trends and maintaining an active role that our organization has with setting new standards and driving technical change through our industry.

• Coordinates work with external development partners to bring cutting edge technology to EESS.

• Recommends targets, leads | supports technical due diligence on technology related acquisitions and investments. Must be capable of cultivating relationships with potential targets.

• Travel – 30%

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution

• Minimum ten (10) years of experience working across various engineering, advanced technology development, and new product introduction roles with progressive responsibilities

• Minimum five (5) years of formal leadership experience with cross-functional and regionally distributed teams

• Demonstrated experience with advanced solutions development and technology/product roadmapping

• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

• Knowledge of Power Systems Engineering, Automation, and Controls

• Knowledge of Power Distribution Services, Distributed Energy Resource management, and Digital Solutions

The expected annual salary range for this role is $172500.03 - $253000.04 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.
