Transportation Engineer IIIPerforms advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Transportation Engineer IVPerforms highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer IIIProvides technical assistance for the development of rural ITS/traffic management corridors.Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, pavement markings, traffic management systems or other traffic related items. Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements. Assists in developing and monitoring budgets.Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plans and projects. Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IVThe essential duties of this job include those listed above and the following:Coordinates and monitors consultant contracts related projects.Oversees the development and support of transportation operations systems.Oversees the processing and review of consultant selection documentation, contracts, and related documents through execution.Acts as a liaison with divisions, MPOs, cities, counties and other governmental entities concerning traffic management md/or traffic safety projects.Assists in utilization of available funds to improve and install traffic control devices. Designs, installs, maintains and repairs all traffic management computer/communication/video systems and/or traffic signals, radios, and railroad crossing equipment.Develops, recommends, and implements modifications as necessary for continual improvement to existing program of responsibility.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer VThe essential duties of this job include those listed above and the following:Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for advanced and highly complex projects.Gives presentations on TxDOT research program activities to departmental personnel and outside entities.Analyzes and reco mends approval for use of consultants and facility contracts.Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Develops traffic engineering and traffic management system policies, procedures and standards.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff. Responsible for Intelligent Transportation System operations. Responsible for Traffic Engineering operations. Responsible for Traffic Systems Management.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
