Position Description
This position is expected to review design/construction drawings that include area classification, wiring diagrams, conduit and cable schedules and PID’s to ensure compliance with NEC and API RP500 requirements.
Review, recommend, and evaluate the design, installation, and operations of high, medium and low-voltage electrical systems to ensure compliance with NEC/NESC requirements while evaluating them for the optimization of efficient, safe and economical operation.
Create technical specifications, Engineering Standards, Construction Standards, and O&M Standards.
Create equipment specifications for medium and low-voltage electrical equipment (MCC’s, Switchgear, Transformers, Motors, Motor Starters, Generators, UPS…)
Review third party Arc Flash Assessments to ensure adherence to NFPA 70E/IEEE-1584.
Utilize electrical power system modelling software (ETAP/EasyPower/SKM).
Provide root cause analysis on electrical equipment failures and major outages.
Support Operations personnel in maintenance work and troubleshooting of electrical issues.
Assist with the commissioning of activities related to new electrical equipment.
Accountable for completing tasks with quality, compliance with applicable codes/standards, and on schedule.
Effectively interface and integrate with other Company departments including Project Management, Procurement, Engineering, Business Development, and Operations to maintain the integrity of the Company’s infrastructure.
Represent the Company in area of expertise with customers, suppliers, licensees, third-party engineering firms, outside consultants, and industry associations. Project manage the electrical portion of the project if the design is produced in house.
Interface with other technical/engineering disciplines to ensure the effective integration of electrical systems with the overall product design.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work while supporting the department and Project Manager with delivery.
Interface with utility companies to obtain short circuit data, new services, meter upgrades, new substation and/or upgrades.
Work with Project Management and Business Development to develop cost estimates for projects (greenfield and brownfield)
**Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of successful candidate.
Position Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
A minimum of 7-10 years of experience with the electrical design of industrial facilities.
Experience in design, selection and requirements of low variable frequency drives, low voltage MCC’s, UPS systems, AC power generators, medium voltage switchgear, medium voltage motors, padmount/substation class transformers and basic protective relaying.
Knowledge of arc flash hazard assessment and reviewing third-party arc flash assessments.
Working knowledge of electrical power system software to modify models, review reports, and view TCC curves. Familiar with coordination studies to produce relay and breaker settings.
Be familiar with the design of ancillary electrical equipment for gas fired, or electric driven compressor/pump stations.
Be familiar with automation, and instrumentation typical of industrial plant design (DCS/PLCs, Transmitters, Actuators…)
Proficient PC-based skills including MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access).
Ability to initiate and plan the design of lighting systems, power distribution systems, motor control circuits, grounding, motor drives, and secondary systems (fire and gas alarm, dc circuits, etc.)
Should be familiar with general substation design practices
Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as IEC, ISA, NEC, API, IEEE, etc.
Ability to perform job responsibilities with minimal guidance or supervision.
Prepare and coordinate engineering reports, calculations, studies, and presentations.
U.S. Citizenship or Green card required.
Working after hours, on holidays, and weekends depending on project requirements.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company.
Travel is required (10-20%).

Preferred:
Knowledge and experience in the design of electrical power and distribution systems for natural gas compressor stations, and/or refined products pump stations, and/or processing facility.
Knowledge and experience leading industrial plant projects from an electrical engineering standpoint.
Knowledge and experience with operating and troubleshooting natural gas, or refined products, facility electrical systems.
