Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores Electrical Project Engineer in Houston, Texas

BASIC PURPOSE: The Project Engineer – Electrical primary role is to provide engineering, planning, and project management for installations of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, Photovoltaic (PV) solar electric installations, and Distributed Energy installations for Love’s Travel Stop and other third-party customers. This role will also assist as an electrical engineering resource for the installation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling facilities, Hydrogen fueling facilities, and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facilities. Manage phases of project execution including estimating, technical design, equipment procurement, construction technical guidance, and support project commissioning. Project Engineer will work with the Grants team, sales team, internal and external design firms, equipment vendors, and coordination of utility service providers. Active and continuing communication of project’s status to all key stakeholders internally and externally to clients.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate new opportunities and develop preliminary design.

  • Support business development and grant development as a technical resource.

  • Develop preliminary station drawing in AutoCAD.

  • Continually review product offerings in the industry and make recommendations on products to use.

  • Maintain existing relationships with vendors and build new strategic relationships.

  • Manage the internal and external Engineering and Design resources to support the development, engineering review and stamping of permit drawings, construction drawings, and as-builts.

  • Review all project contracts to understand the processes/procedures and technical specifications to meet and exceed customer defined expectations.

  • Assist the PM with the completion of AHJ applications for the submittal to local permitting agencies.

  • Assist the PM with the completion of utility applications for projects.

  • Review equipment submittals and provide feedback to PM(s) for all major equipment from external vendors.

  • Support the PM(s) on meetings with the customers from an engineering and design prospective. Responsible for providing engineering sign off on all aspects of all applicable station designs.

  • Provide timely response to the submittal and Request for Information (RFI) process related to engineering and design.

  • Provide engineering and design support to the PM(s) with utilities, contractors, and the customer to reach acceptable technical, engineering and economic solutions.

  • Participate in construction phase periodic site visits to identify, solve, and execute engineering and design RFI’s to avoid project schedule and cost creep.

  • Use of appropriate interpersonal skills and communication methods to build constructive relationships with clients, business units, service organizations, and other stakeholders to meet shared goals and objectives.

  • Ability to facilitate and manage change and participate in the development of new internal processes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Required

Required Experience:

  • 3+ years’ experience working in the field of engineering and design.

  • 3+ years’ experience designing Electrical Power Systems.

Preferred Experience:

  • 1+ years designing and executing Electric Vehicle Infrastructure projects

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or other drafting software

  • Full knowledge of Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Project. Must be able to type 40 wpm and compose professional emails, letters, and contracts.

Required Physical Demands:

  • Travel required, approximately 25%.

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.

  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.

  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
