MD Anderson Cancer Center Instructor - Imaging Physics - Research in Houston, Texas

This position is for an Instructor, Research Faculty Appointment (RFA) in the Department of Imaging Physics. This position will involve conducting research and the candidate is expected to carry out on-going projects under the direction of a supervising senior faculty and to develop independent research project(s) in bioinformatics and AI/Machine Learning, with a particular focus on spatial imaging and single cell proteomics analysis. This position requires close collaboration with physicists, biologist, medical oncologists, and other research staff and trainees. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The person filling the position will be expected to maintain a consistent peer-reviewed publication record and to submit research proposals as a PI for independent funding. Further, the instructor will be expected to participate in the training of other pre-doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Research activities 90%

The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to:

Work either under the direction of a supervising faculty member or independently on the existing funded research projects the development and validation of novel computational biology and AI/Machine Learning techniques for medical image analysis and spatial single cell proteomics analysis. Will be expected to maintain a consistent peer-reviewed publication record and to submit research proposals as a PI for independent funding. Will also be expected to participate in the training of other pre-doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab.

Lead, participate and/or assist in preparing peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, scientific conference abstracts, and progress reports on the research findings.

Lead, participate and/or assist in preparing grant proposals on new hypothesis-driven research in the areas of medical image analysis and single cell proteomics analysis.

Participate in departmental seminars and other research related activities.

Help supervise and educate trainees in their research efforts.

Educational activities 5%

Participates in the training of medical physics graduate students and post-doctoral research fellows.

Administrative activities 5%

Participates in CME and in-service sessions for faculty and staff.

Participates in institutional, administrative and faculty committee meetings and activities.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The position requires the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and staff, the ability to think and perform independent research, to review and analyze highly complex data.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. with background in physics, biomedical engineering, applied math, or a related field and a minimum of two years of post-doctoral research experience in the related field.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Desired skills are experiences in image acquisition and image analysis and processing, software programming, and good scientific methods.

Work Location: Onsite

This position has a target base salary of $65,000 to $80,000 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
