The primary purpose of this position is to perform work in collecting, analyzing, evaluating, interpretating, and disseminating of information on conditions, trends, and forces in foreign and domestic areas that directly or indirectly affect the national security. Your typical work assignments may include: Serves as a trainee, handling fewer complex issues, and may participate on more complex issues or special projects. Reviews ATF communications to identify and evaluate the intelligence information therein. Prepare and disseminate intelligence information while protecting sources and investigations through correct document classification and controls. As an Intelligence Research Specialist, GS-0132-09, your typical work assignment may include: Works with senior IRSs in liaison services and the debriefing of sources, individual(s) arrested, and/or detainees to exploit the intelligence information for analysis. Assists in the development and maintenance of computerized intelligence databases to meet the specific needs of the division and to generate statistical and relational reports for division managers and for Headquarters programs and projects. Conduct validation of sources, evaluates information derived from cooperating witnesses, assets, and informants, and prepares production reviews of asset/informant/cooperating witness validation efforts. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses. See www.sss.gov Must sign a mobility agreement as condition of employment Qualifications To qualify for GS-07, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-05.To qualify for GS-09, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-07. Additional Conditions of Employment: GS-07 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties: Experience analyzing intelligence/investigative reports; AND Experience communicating to senior leadership regarding investigative outcomes; AND Experience with federal/state/local investigations. OR Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the skills necessary to do this job. OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required at this level. SAA is defined as a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, having a class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society. GS-09 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties: Experience working on intelligence/investigative cases; AND Experience with intelligence computerized databases on the state/local or federal level; AND Experience communicating/debriefing senior officials regarding arrests, intelligence information for analysis; or detainees. OR Master's degree, two full years of graduate education, a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level.
